Aromatherapy is the use of plant essential oils to provide different therapeutic purposes. Essential oils work physiologically, acting on different organs in the body, and psychologically, via the lymbic system in the brain.
Not only do essential oils smell amazing, but the best bit is that the blends can be tailored to suit your needs and preferences! Aromatherapy is most often used with massage allowing the oils to be absorbed through the skin and the aromas inhaled.
Use of aromatherapy massage in pregnancy offers a wide range of benefits including relaxation and support through a time of physical, hormonal and emotional demand. It also helps to increase oxytocin levels (the love hormone) and decrease cortisol levels (the stress hormone), positively impacting both you and your baby. Massage is also GREAT for lower back and pelvic pain as it eases muscle strain and aids relaxation!
Regular relaxation for you, will also help your baby feel more relaxed and it helps with bonding with your baby too!
(At Mumma Earth, massage for ‘relaxation only’ is offered up to 1 year postnatally if you have had a treatment within your pregnancy. If not, it is offered up to 12 weeks postnatally. You can come alone for some much needed ‘me time’ OR you can bring baby along too!)
